Some Bushwick tenants say they have gone without heat and running water during the bitter cold this winter.
They rallied Tuesday outside their 1231 Broadway building, claiming their landlords harass them, threaten them with eviction and do not make necessary repairs.
The tenants say they're looking for the city to step in and provide assistance in the form of making emergency repairs. They say they've gone without water since a pipe burst on Jan. 7 and claim they also deal with issues like leaks, mold, mice and roaches.
News 12 reached out to both landlords of the building, Hanny Chum Chang and Chen Tin Chang, but only the latter answered the phone. He says there is heat and hot water in the building and that he has never harassed anyone. He denies the tenants' allegations and says the building's superintendent, Carlos, is working on any necessary repairs.
News 12 called the number tenants provided for Carlos, who said he is a maintenance worker who cleans and shovels but is not the superintendent.
News 12 also reached out to the city to find out if there are plans to make emergency repairs at the Broadway building but did not hear back.
According to the city Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the building currently has 54 open violations.
