Health officials don't want the cost of a flu shot to keep anyone from getting vaccinated.

The Norwalk Health Department will be administering the shots Thursday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. They will be free or low-cost.

The Darien Health Department also added an extra flu shot clinic for Thursday. That clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Health officials say there have been more than 1,300 reported cases of the flu in Connecticut so far this year.

They say there have been at least 22 flu-related deaths, including a 10-year-old boy from New Canaan.

Doctors say hearing about that child's death has prompted more people to get vaccinated, and has also stirred concern in people the moment they think they may have flu symptoms.

Even though the current vaccine does not directly combat against the deadliest form of flu this season - H3N2 - doctors say the vaccine will help prime your body's immune system to respond to that strain of flu.
