State prosecutors are asking the Connecticut Supreme Court to put Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel back in prison.

Prosecutors filed a motion claiming that Skakel should not be free on bail a year after the court reinstated his conviction for the murder of Martha Moxley in 1975.

Skakel, a nephew of Robert F. Kennedy’s widow, Ethel Kennedy, was convicted of murder in 2002, and was sentenced 20 years to life in prison, for killing Moxley, who was bludgeoned with a golf club in Greenwich.

Skakel was freed in 2013 on $1.2 million bail after a judge granted him a new trial based on claims that his trial lawyer, Michael Sherman, made a series of poor decisions in representing him.

The defense says the prosecution is trying to move the case forward.

Defense attorney Stephan Seeger says, "They're basically saying we won and these types of reconsideration motions are never granted. It's like standing outside the front of the Supreme Court and shouting come on already."

The case has been a challenge for prosecutors because of the age of the crime and the lack of forensic evidence.
