31 neglected animals rescued from Bridgeport home

Animal control workers rescued 31 animals from a home in Bridgeport after being tipped off about the situation.
Twenty-eight Chihuahua mixed dogs, two puppies and a cat were found inside a home on Kent Street. Authorities say a 73-year-old woman lives at the residence.
Animal control officials say the animals were found scared and malnourished with fleas and skin diseases. They say the animals were left to roam around the home, and some of the dogs were pregnant.
"There was trash piled up all over the side, the floor was filthy, dogs running everywhere, and the odor that came from the house was just unbearable," says Sgt. Stacey Lyons, of the Bridgeport Police Department.
Officials say it's one of the biggest animal hoarding cases they have seen in years.
Some of the animals have been taken by local rescue groups. Anyone interested in helping the animals can call Bridgeport Animal Control at (203) 576-7727.
