Police say a Bridgeport man confessed to killing his 16-year-old niece.
They say 31-year-old Richard Segabiro called 911 just after 10 p.m. Monday to report that he had stabbed his niece several times and thought she was dead.
Officers responded to 2292 Fairfield Ave., where they say they found Francine Nyanzaninka dead in the bathroom. They also found Segabiro's wife and three children asleep in other rooms.
Police say Segabiro was taken down to the police station and was calm as he confessed to the killing, but they haven't released a motive.
A neighbor describes the family, who’s originally from the Congo, as quiet. He says the victim went to school at St. Ann's and that he often saw her playing basketball behind the apartment.
Police say they haven't been called to the home in the past and that Segabiro does not have a criminal record.
During Tuesday’s arraignment, the judge raised Segabiro’s bond to $1.5 million. He's due back in court next month.
