Man accused of threatening Fairfield students appears in court

BRIDGEPORT -

A college student who allegedly threatened on social media to kill several high schoolers was ordered to stay away from Fairfield Ludlowe High School.

Police say 23-year-old Nicholas Graham sent a series of messages to a 16-year-old student at Ludlowe through Facebook Messenger. The arrest warrant states, "Nicholas then wrote if (the victim) tried to block him, he would find him and kill him," as well as "all of his friends because they deserve it." Screenshots of the threat made the rounds to other students, whose parents called 911.

Investigators arrested Graham Tuesday at his dormitory at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. Police say Graham said he never meant the threats to be taken seriously.

Even though the threats never specifically mentioned Ludlowe, Graham was ordered to stay at least 100 yards from the school. The judge also lowered his bail to $10,000.

Fairfield' school superintendent wrote on Twitter, "The individual is in police custody and there is NOT a perceived threat." Still, police are adding extra security to Fairfield schools.

"We have to take every single complaint serious, because we don't want something like Parkland, Florida to happen," says Fairfield Police Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

Fairfield detectives say Graham has been committed several times in the past for being suicidal and that there's no indication he had access to firearms. Graham's lawyer told the judge Wednesday that he is seeing a psychiatrist and is currently on medication.
