A mentor for young men in the community is accused of beating Bridgeport City Councilwoman Eneida Martinez.
According to the Connecticut Post, Sherman Perry attacked Martinez because she wouldn't return his phone calls.
Martinez spent a week in Bridgeport Hospital.
The report says Martinez suffered neurological damage as a result of the assault.
The judge ordered Perry be held in custody.
He is due back in court next month.
