The city of Milford dealt with pelting rain, strong winds and flooding as a result of the nor'easter.

Milford is highly prone to flooding as it has the longest coastline of any municipality in the state.

The city blocked off Melba Street during high tide, although it didn't prevent some cars from going through. City officials told News 12 that they asked everyone who lives on the coastline to move their cars to higher ground.

Mayor Ben Blake and the director of public works were out surveying the damage.

"The wind is coming out of the west instead of the east, so I think there would've been even more storm surge if it had come out of the east," Blake said. "We got lucky in that vein."

The high winds brought down trees, including one that fell onto a truck on Edgefield Avenue. The owner tells New 12 that he was in his home during the incident, but went outside to clean up the damage.

Residents in the area were hit hard by Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Irene. They said they are used to flooding, which comes with living on the shore.
