Danbury mayor leaves hospital after collapse

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton has left the hospital after he suddenly collapsed at a gubernatorial campaign event Thursday night.

Danbury's City Council president says Boughton collapsed due to dehydration.

Boughton was speaking to Republicans in Avon just moments before he fainted around 8:30 p.m. State Rep. Prasad Srinivasan, another candidate for governor who's a doctor, and a nurse cared for Boughton until an ambulance arrived.

"I did what needed to be done to provide and give him the necessary, prompt medical attention that he needed last night," Srinivasan says.

Boughton's campaign has not said if health concerns will derail his run for governor. Last year, he appeared in a commercial following a 12-hour surgery for a brain tumor.

Boughton is expected to return to work Monday.

Also Friday, New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart said she will make a "special announcement" Monday regarding her possible run for governor.
