Supporters held a public rally in Westport approving the potential confirmation of Justice Andrew McDonald as chief justice of the Connecticut State Supreme Court.

If confirmed, McDonald would be America's first openly gay chief justice of a State Supreme Court.

Dozens of attorneys have spoken highly of Justice McDonald's qualifications.
However, those who oppose McDonald's candidacy have raised concerns that his activism will make it difficult for him to be impartial.
The Connecticut State Senate is expected to vote on the confirmation of McDonald Tuesday.
