Two people have died following a crash in Shelton Sunday.
The incident occurred on River Road near Murphys Lane around 7 p.m.
Police have identified the victims as 18-year-old Army Private Shalymar Herrera, of West Haven, and 23-year-old Briana Torres-Carter, of Bridgeport, who was eight months pregnant.
They were both passengers in a car driven by Torres-Carter’s husband, 19-year-old Lawrence Carter, who is in critical condition and on life support at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Police say the Mini Cooper Carter was driving was headed southbound when it collided with another car from Pennsylvania traveling in the opposite direction.
They say the driver and two passengers in the other car, and another passenger in Carter’s car were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say there was a third non-contact vehicle involved in the crash. They have identified the vehicle and its driver.
River Road in the immediate area was shut down for several hours while police investigated, but has since reopened.
Police are still investigating the crash, and say there is no indication alcohol or drugs were involved.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Shelton Police Traffic Division at (203) 924-1544.
