Mayor David Martin, along with other officials, held a ribbon cutting Monday for a new occupational school in Stamford.

The school, Northeast Medical Institute, aims to help jumpstart the careers of people interested in the medical field.

Officials say the school will offer certification training for nurse aides and offer American Heart Association CPR courses.

Daniel Remiszewski, owner of Northeast Medical Institute, says he used to work with a man who had cerebral palsy and wants others to learn how to properly care for those in need.

"I wanted to teach others how to give the utmost respect to people like him," Remiszewski says. "Working with him throughout eight years, I noticed a lot of people can't do that. I want to be able to show people how to be able to give respect to someone like him and give the care that he deserves."

School officials say they are accepting applications.
