Friends and relatives of a Bridgeport teen who died in a police-involved shooting marked the anniversary of his death Wednesday at sundown.

Jayson Negron was shot and killed on Fairfield Avenue after police say the 15-year-old struck an officer with a stolen car.

A few months ago, protesters demonstrated at the scene after investigators cleared Officer James Boulay of wrongdoing.

Mourners returned on the one-year anniversary of his death in a fashion they say he would have enjoyed: They held a block party.

"It's like a roller coaster," says Nicole Melendez, Negron's aunt. "There are times that I am happy, because I can remember good times. There are times I get emotional, because I just miss him."

Young friends put up a memorial banner. Family members decorated the scene with photos, hearts and red wrapping paper.

Police Chief AJ  Perez said he had officers there to make sure the event stayed safe and peaceful, and it appeared to be.

Abdul Raheem Ali found inspiration in the scene.

"Be nice and peaceful like MLK," he said, invoking the nonviolent civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
