Fairfield fill-a-truck event to help fight hunger

Posted: Updated:
FAIRFIELD -

Fairfield is hosting a fill-a-truck event to benefit Operation Hope and The Connecticut Food Bank.

Boxes shaped like trucks are set up at several locations.

They are asking for canned fruits and vegetables, soups, pasta, peanut butter, and hygiene products among other items.

Officials say nearly half a million people in Connecticut struggle with hunger.

The summer months are difficult for families in need who rely on schools for free or reduced-price breakfasts and lunches.
