The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning about travel and vacation fraud.
Experts say to beware of vacation scams.
"Sometimes it is a real house but it's not really for rent. And sometimes it's a real house but in real life, it's quite different than the pictures the person sent you," says Melissa Companick, of the Better Business Bureau.
The Better Business Bureau says to check reviews and look at pictures of hotels or resorts you've never seen before from actual guests.
They also say to use mapping apps to see the property if you're renting from an individual and make sure it looks like what's expected.
Another option is to check property records to confirm who owns it and ask detailed questions.
Never pay for a vacation with a check, cash or by wiring money. A credit card is the best option, that way a charge can be disputed if something goes wrong.
