Family recovers missing rocks painted for teen cancer patient

GREENWICH -

The family of a teen battling cancer has recovered some of the special rocks painted with inspiring messages that went missing from Cos Cob Park.

As News 12 Connecticut previously reported, the rocks were made in honor of Steven Sudell, 14, a teen battling brain cancer in hospice.

Over the past month, people have painted dozens of rocks with uplifting messages for Sudell’s collection. The largest weighs about 50 pounds and features a cardinal, the mascot of Greenwich High School.

Sudell’s family tells News 12 that the Parks and Recreation Department was able to track down one of the larger rocks and well as some of the smaller ones.

While it is not clear who moved the rocks, the family is asking those who participate in the project to leave the rocks in places that won’t interfere with park maintenance.
