Police: Bullets riddle Bridgeport neighborhood as gunman opens fire on 'rival'

BRIDGEPORT -

Bridgeport police say they're stepping up patrols on the East Side of the city after investigators say a gunman opened fire on an apparent rival, sending terrified residents running for cover.

A car window was shot out by gunfire, and more than a dozen bullet holes were found in surrounding houses.

The family who lives in one home tells News 12 Connecticut that the person who was the target of the gunfire came running up a set of steps and disappeared behind some houses.

For Pablo Rojas and his wife, it was a terrifying experience. Rojas, who does not speak English, shared his story with Police Chief AJ Perez, who said the incident began Saturday afternoon when a gunman opened fire on a man who ran through his driveway and behind his house to escape the barrage of bullets being aimed in his direction.

Rojas says he'll never forget hearing the sound of gunfire and shattering glass in his neighborhood, which he says is usually pretty peaceful.

He's hoping police will find the gunman.

Perez says investigators will soon be examining surveillance video which will hopefully lead to an arrest.
