National Weather Service: Tornado touched down in Queens
The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado briefly touched down in Queens Thursday night.
The NWS confirmed an EF0 twister touched down near St. Fidelis Catholic Church in the College Point section, traveling a path three-quarters of a mile long and 100 yards wide.
Winds were 70 to 85 mph and at least 50 trees were taken down during that time.
The tornado briefly moved along the southernmost shoreline of Powell`s Cove, and then dissipated over the far eastern end of the park just before reaching 138th Street.
Officials say wind damage occurred from that point eastward to the Francis Lewis Park near the Whitestone Bridge.
