Stamford's Twin Rinks invites skaters to get out of the heat

Posted: Updated:
STAMFORD -

With the heat outside above 90 degrees, Stamford's Twin Rinks saw a crowd of people enjoying its 50-degree indoor temperatures.

The rinks are composed of 10,000 gallons of frozen water and offer open ice-skating sessions, summer camps, lessons and even practice space for NHL players. It also offers open public skating for people of all ages.

Gov. Richard Bluenthal sent out a warning today that heat can be dangerous for the elderly and young children, so it's important to get indoors in the cool air.

"It's different than going outside," says Robert Rode, the general manager. "You beat the heat, you kind of enjoy your friends. Kids are just kind of enjoying the ice, hanging out with their friends and having fun."

Rode also says that skating is a great skill to have because it builds confidence and character.

Even for those not interested in skating, Twin Rinks boasts a health and fitness center and an arcade. They also have two cafes where you can sit and watch experienced skaters twirl and glide on the ice.
