A Port Jefferson Station man with a rare blood type is in desperate need of a kidney.
Frank Biscardi is in kidney failure and is praying for a donor. Doctors say his wait time could be up to seven years due to his blood type.
Biscardi's wife of 30 years, Connie, says they are hopeful her 54-year-old husband will find a donor.
"Yes, we hope we can find one. He goes to dialysis three times a week and there is a seven-year wait for a kidney because he is B-positive, which is very rare," says Connie Biscardi.
Biscardi is not alone.
According to the National Kidney Foundation, there are 9,500 New Yorkers who need a kidney donor. Over 3,000 new patients nationwide are added to the kidney waiting list each month, and 13 people die each day while waiting for a kidney transplant.
He says he is on the donation list at Stony Brook University Hospital.
