Stamford Hospital celebrates nursing school

Stamford Hospital celebrated a piece of its history Tuesday by honoring its former nursing school.
The Stamford Hospital School of Nursing opened in 1901 and closed in 1976, with 900 nurses going through the program in the process.
Many of those nurses returned to Stamford Hospital for a special ceremony in their honor. It included unveiling a sculpture to commemorate the school's 75-year run, depicting a nursing cap held up by a pair of hands.
The event was a reunion for many current and former nurses who have a special place in their heart for their alma mater.
The oldest member of the alumni association is 93-year-old Rosina Zezima, who had nothing but good words for the ceremony.
"It really is beautiful, I can't imagine who dreamed up what would go in to that sculpture but it really is lovely," said Zezima.
The sculpture will be put in the main lobby of Stamford Hospital. It was paid for by alumni donations.
