Authorities: Police shoot, kill man who held bus driver at gunpoint

East Orange police shot and killed a man who was holding a bus driver at gunpoint, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
A spokesperson for the office says that Allen Travers was involved in a domestic dispute Tuesday evening. After the incident, Travers boarded a public bus armed with a gun and pointed the gun at officers when they approached.
Police say that Travers pointed the gun at the bus driver’s head and told her to drive through all the red lights. He then allegedly told the driver to stop near Central Avenue and South 10th Street in Newark.
Police say that when Travers left the bus, he pointed his gun at them. Officers then shot him. Travers was taken to University Hospital and died around 11:15 p.m.
An investigation into the shooting is underway.
