Police: Stamford man pistol-whipped person during Norwalk home invasion

A Stamford man is accused of pistol-whipping a person during a home invasion in Norwalk.
Alvin Collins, 46, of Stamford, has been charged with home invasion and assault.
On April 5, police say Collins broke into the home of a woman he used to date and tried to shoot the man she currently lives with.
They say Collins pulled the trigger, but that the gun jammed so he began to pistol-whip one of the victims and assault them on the floor.
"It could've ended up in a homicide," says Lt. Terry Blake.
Police say the second victim ran into the bathroom and called 911.
One person was transported to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
Residents say they are surprised something like this could happen in the neighborhood.
"This is a little scary because I've been here over 30 years, it's the first I've heard of this happening around here," says Judy Hoy. "I'm a little shocked."
Collins left the scene in a car, but later turned himself in after police issued a warrant for his arrest.
He is being held on a $1 million bond.
