Go Green: Children can get involved in saving the planet
The saying goes "We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children." But how can those children get involved in saving the planet for themselves and future generations? News 12's Elizabeth Hashagen takes a look in the second part of our Go Green series.
The EPA says that each of us creates an average of 4.5 pounds of trash each day. But we can reduce that number by creating a "waste free lunch" - that means you have no trash to throw away when you're done.
To make it happen you need reusable lunch containers, refillable water bottles, cloth napkins and reusable utensils.
And when you plan your school day, why not carpool, walk or ride a bike?
Create an inventory when it comes to school supplies. Before you buy more, see what can be reused and what you already have and don't need to buy again - that way you can reduce waste and save money.
And after you've gone through all the papers in your backpack, save them - they can be used for notes, projects or scraps.
