BRIDGEPORT -

A Bridgeport man who was moved by a story he saw on News 12 donated a car to a family in need of transportation for their sick child.

Jamie Lake says her 7-year-old son Korey has a rare genetic heart condition called Williams syndrome, which has weakened his heart. He has undergone 22 cardiac surgeries at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital during his lifetime.

The family told News 12 they needed a car to help get Korey back-and-forth to his doctor. Mayor Joe Ganim joined them in making a public appeal for help.

Jose Valentin, 39, who works at Supreme Auto LLC, was honored by Ganim Wednesday after he donated a Subaru Legacy to the family. He says he saw the story Sunday and wanted to help.

"I'm now able to get my son back and forth to all the appointments and even bring him out during the summer," says Lake. "Thank you everybody so much for your help. There's tons of love coming from my family, and from my son and I alone."

Supreme Auto LLC is also offering to service the vehicle as long as the family owns it.
