Red Cross asks for blood donations amidst Type O shortage

The Red Cross is looking for blood donors amidst a national shortage of Type O-negative blood.
Red Cross representative Lauren Ashe says that Type O is in short supply at hospitals and trauma centers across the country. The universal blood type can be used for anyone in an emergency situation, regardless of their own blood type.
The Red Cross says it needs an average of 14,000 donations per day to meet demand. Right now, daily donations average about 11,000.
