More than 2,200 runners gathered Saturday for a 5K event to remember three little girls from Floral Park who died in a horrific Taconic Parkway crash.
The Hance Family Foundation's annual 5K run/walk was held in the Floral Park Centennial Gardens. The 10-year anniversary of Alyson, Kate and Emma Hance's deaths is on July 26.
Investigators say their aunt, Diane Schuler of West Babylon, was driving a minivan drunk and high on drugs on the Taconic Parkway in Westchester and drove into oncoming traffic. Eight people were killed in the crash.
Jackie and Warren Hance say they have chosen to focus on the legacy their daughters left behind rather than the tragedy 10 years ago.
“I have a lot of reasons to smile even through tragedy in my life,” says Jackie Hance. “I have a lot of blessings and I feel them all the time.”
The family continues to honor their daughters through their foundation and many self-esteem educational programs.
