A military couple from Chester is honoring a group of fallen veterans with a traveling memorial called the "New York Warrior Promise Wall."

Laurene Sandstrom says the six memorialized soldiers from New York lost their own personal battles once they got home from serving overseas.

"Their faces need to be seen," says Sandstrom. "They're our heroes."

Sandstrom lost her own brother, Lt. Lou Allen, while serving in Iraq in 2005. Sandstrom along with her husband created the traveling PTSD memorial to honor a group of soldiers who are often forgotten.

"They had the horrors of the war to contend with," says Sandstrom. "They lost the battle. It's very sad, but I want to remember them all because they're heroes."

Sandstrom and her husband say there's likely countless others who have suffered the same fate.

The wall was funded entirely by donations. The memorial will make its debut this weekend at a ceremony in Newburgh.

The hope now is that more military families will come forward, not only to help break the stigma of PTSD and suicide, but to give their heroes they recognition deserved.
