Police in Norwalk are taking their oath to protect and serve to a whole new level.
Norwalk police, as well as several organizations throughout the community, fixed up an 83-year-old woman's home, to make it safer and more accessible.
They pulled up the carpet on the stairwell and put in stair treads, all smoke alarms were replaced and carbon monoxide detectors were installed.
Police teamed up with members of Canaan Institutional Baptist Church and nonprofits Building Community and Rebuilding Together for the effort.
"It's important for us to build bridges with the community and to let them know we are here for them, not only to keep them safe, but to help them with every aspect of their lives," says Sgt. Sal Calise.
Rebuilding Together's annual fall project will be held in Stamford, where they will repair three homes.
