An Inwood couple has died in what appears to be a drowning off Far Rockaway, police say.
Police say 28-year-old Keylon Ramsay and 25-year-old Umarie Chamble were found unresponsive late Tuesday night.
They were found in the water near the shore line at Far Rockaway Beach. Family members tell News 12 they were at the beach to celebrate a friend's birthday.
They were rushed to Saint John's Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Ramsay's father, Sheldon St. Hilaire, says Ramsay did not know how to swim and was petrified of the water.
News 12 is told Chamble was trying to teach Ramsay how to swim.
Family members say Ramsay was starting a moving company. They also say Chamble was a home health aide who was also in school, and the two had been together for about a year.
No funeral arrangements have been arraigned yet.
