Toys R Us, the once iconic toy store based out of Wayne, is set to make a comeback in the Garden State.
Toys R Us closed all of its American-based stores last year after nearly 70 years in business, citing financial issues.
However, new owners bought the brand in October and announced that two new stores would open – one in Texas and the other at the Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus. The new stores will not be the same Toys R Us that people remember.
Toys R Us is partnering with the company b8ta, known for interactive retailing. The stories will be smaller and will have hands-on opportunities for kids - something that some children and parents say that they are excited for.
"With online retail, you can get toys pretty much everywhere nowadays, but I'm sure they miss somewhere where they can go and be interactive,” one mother told News 12 New Jersey.
The Paramus location is set to open in November, just in time for the holiday season.
The Toys R Us owners say that they have plans to open more stores in the future in “prime, high-traffic retail markets.”
