A vigil was held Tuesday night to honor two Stamford teens who died in a car crash Monday.

Officials say the driver, 18-year-old Jerry Diaz, was headed southbound on Canal Street around 2:30 a.m. Monday when he hit two utility poles. Back-seat passenger NiShawn Tolliver, 18, died at the scene. Another back-seat passenger, 19-year-old Kymoni Pollock, died at the hospital.

Pollock's uncle, Wilner Joseph, told News 12 that his nephew was a great kid who was always smiling. He says Pollock played football at Stamford High School, where he graduated last year.

Police say six people were in a car heading down Canal Street early Monday morning when the driver hit two utility poles. Four others were hurt, two are both in critical condition.

Joseph says there will be a vigil Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. where the crash happened to remember the two boys.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but they do say that speeding was a factor.

"As a family and a community, we're going to stand together and figure this out, and figure out a way to create a positive message to a lot of young teenagers about driving and speed, and things of that nature," says Joseph.
