Mosquitoes test positive for Triple E virus in 7 Connecticut towns

Posted: Updated:

Connecticut Department of Health officials are urging residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites after insects trapped in seven communities tested positive for the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus.

Mosquitoes carrying the virus were found in towns including Chester, Haddam, Hampton, Killingworth, North Stonington, Stonington, and Voluntown.

There have been no human cases of the virus reported in Connecticut since 2013.

Officials say it's still important for residents, especially in the southeastern part of the state, to take precautions.
