Advocacy groups rallied for the allowance of cycling on the Verrazano Bridge Sunday.
Bike South Brooklyn, Transportation Alternatives Staten Island, and other cyclists say they want the MTA to launch a pilot program for biking on the bridge.
They say their goal is to show the MTA Bridge and Tunnel Authority that this change has much support from the community.
The bridge has 13 lanes and supporters say this is plenty of space to accommodate bicyclists, pedestrians, and joggers.
Organizers say they plan on presenting a petition backed by supporters of the pilot program to the MTA.
