Officials say five people are in custody in connection to the shooting at Pleasantville High School during a football game Friday night that left three people injured.
They say Alvin Wyatt, of Atlantic City, is charged with three counts of attempted murder. In addition, Michael Mack, Tyrell Dorn and Shahid Dixon, from Atlantic City, and Vance Golden from Pleasantville are facing weapons charges.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, a man and two juveniles were injured.
News 12 is told a 27-year-old man is in stable condition. The 15-year-old was treated and released, while a 10-year-old boy remains in critical condition.
Police say it's possible that the 27-year-old man was the target.
The shots were fired in the bleachers at Pleasantville High School during the third quarter of Friday night's game.
The game was suspended after the shooting. Prosecutors say the five suspects fled the scene last night, throwing out a weapon while en route to Atlantic City.
Former Pleasantville youth football coach Jonathan Diego, who witnessed the shooting, says three people were also shot at another football game in Atlantic City in 2005.
The town's mayor says reactions from the rest of the state have been important to the community.
"Our heart goes out to the victims and their families," said Pleasantville Mayor Jesse L. Tweedle, Sr. "This does not define who we are, it's how we respond to it. I can honestly say that the response has been overwhelming. I've had mayors call me, Senator Booker's office called me, I've had bishops call me and pray on the phone. This has been unbelieveable."
"High school playoff football should be a cause for community celebration, not the backdrop for panic and terror," says Gov. Phil Murphy in a statement. "I am grateful for the lifesaving swift actions of first responders to tend to the wounded, and our prayers are with the victims for a swift and full recovery."
Friday night's game will continue Wednesday, but it will be closed to the public.
