Police say a Hempstead man died in a Christmas Day hit-and-run in Queens.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. near 114th Street and Rockaway Boulevard.
Officials say officers discovered 67-year-old Ainsley Dalrymple lying between two parked cars. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Surveillance video shows Dalrymple park his Mercedes Benz and attempting to cross Rockaway Boulevard from the northside to the southside of the roadway. Police say he was then struck by a silver or gray Toyota that kept driving westbound.
Dalrymple’s wife was inside the Mercedes during the incident. The couple had just finished celebrating Christmas at their eldest son's home in Ozone Park.
“She said she just heard an impact,” said Ainsley Dalrymple Jr. “She thought it was two cars, but it wasn't.”
Dalrymple Jr. told reporters that his father was a hardworking man who immigrated from Jamaica, raised four children and was enjoying the holidays with seven grandchildren.
“One thing I learned – to be hardworking, because that's what he was. It doesn't matter the weather, he went to work,” said Dalrymple Jr.
Dalrymple is the eighth pedestrian in the five boroughs who has been struck and killed in a little more than a week.
Police are urging anyone with information about the hit-and-run to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
