Things get back on track at DMV following major network outage

Things were getting back on track Tuesday at Long Island’s DMVs following a major network outage statewide that caused long lines and frustrated customers.
New laws have also affected volume at DMV offices, including people who immigrated to the United States without documentation being allowed to apply for driver licenses. Also, many motorists have to now apply in person for enhanced or Real ID driver licenses.
The new licenses are required for air travel in October.
Motorists told News 12 a new appointment system and extended hours at some DMV offices is helping, but encourage others to come early. DMV officials recommend customers reserve a time slot online.
Some say the first open slots online are months away, and they still have to wait for hours inside the DMV.
