Drivers passing by Stewart International Airport recently may have noticed that land is being cleared. That's where the a new Amazon facility is going up in Montgomery.
Crews wasted no time getting to work after an agreement was reached last week with the Town IDA to move ahead with the project.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus says it’s great news for the area.
"We're talking about 1,000 full-time jobs, 300 construction jobs over the next 18 months. And also there's going to be a huge impact on Stewart International Airport, a number of planes will come to help facilitate Amazon also known as Prime Airlines,” he says.
The new 1 million-square-foot facility will sit at the end of the runway of Stewart International Airport.
It's right off of Route 747 in Montgomery, bordering the town of Newburgh.
Under the recently negotiated and approved plan, 80% of the workers hired must be local.

The facility is expected to open within the next two years.
