A local nonprofit is doing their best to help those impacted by school closures get food.
The Norwalk-based Food Rescue US says it is recovering food from canceled events, closing offices and facilities and other establishments with excess food that has become available during the coronavirus outbreak.
The nonprofit says they are working together with partners like Trader Joe's to distribute unused food to areas with people who need it and restock pantries.

On Sunday, Food Rescue US delivered food to the Bridgeport Islamic Community Center which helps to feed over 140 local families each week.
Regularly, Food Rescue US says it works with close to 100 donors, but some are closing due to the national emergency. However, the Food Rescue US site director for Fairfield County Nicole Straight says they are receiving requests from agencies that aren't regularly donors.
"We got a phone call from Chelsea Piers in Stamford and they didn't know what to do with their food and they called us and I was in the neighborhood so I actually went and picked it up and brought it up to Murton Center," Straight says. "You know, they had 40 pounds of perfectly edible deli turkey and sandwich meat and bread and salads so all of this food, which now not only going to not end up in the dumpster but it’s going to feed people whose families may not be working and whose kids may not be in school right now."
Food Service US says anyone can help during this time. They have an app to download.
