Two Darien businesses teamed up to raise money to provide fresh-cooked meals for struggling families during the coronavirus pandemic.
Swimm Pools in Darien was forced to close its storefront because of the pandemic, but as an essential business their crews have still been busy installing and servicing pools.
Mark Swimm wanted to help many families in the area who may have lost their jobs and are now turning to food banks as a way to put food on the table.
He turned to his friends at Michael Joseph's Catering in Darien, and Swimm donated $4,000 to go toward meals that would be donated to a local food bank.
But, within a few days, Swimm says his customers came through with an additional $20,000.
He says the money is enough to put together more than 2,000 meals.
Michael Joseph's Catering says all of their meals are freshly made and even include dessert.
Each meal will be delivered to Darien-based non-profit Person-to-Person.
Person-to-Person says the need for all three of its food pantries has gone up around 40% amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Swimm says his business and Michael Joseph's Catering will continue their effort as long as needed.
Person-to-Person says it is in need of certain items for its food pantries.
