Child psychologist: Students will also miss out on social interaction following cancellation of school

A child psychologist is encouraging parents to talk with their children about it being OK to be disappointed with the state canceling in-person school for the rest of the academic year.
Dr. Eli Lebowitz, of the Yale Child Study Center, says children are also missing out on events and extracurricular activities that would normally go along with the end of the year.
He says children's brains process time differently from adults, so social distancing has likely felt even longer.
Lebowitz also wants to remind children that the shutdown is temporary, even though it has felt like a long time since it started.
He recommends sticking to a schedule and getting plenty of exercise to keep spirits high while being stuck at home.
