Bridgeport city officials say a mother and father are grateful for the quick thinking of a police detective who delivered their baby.
Bridgeport Police Detective Jorge Cintron says he just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
Cintron says on Wednesday morning, a man on the side of the road told him his wife was going into labor. Cintron says he called medics and that a passing motorist who stopped just happened to have some needed items.
The couple was only a few short miles from Bridgeport Hospital, but the baby couldn't wait.
Cintron says this was the first time he ever delivered a baby in his 20-plus years on the force. He says he's used to delivering bad news, so he says it's refreshing to be a part of something like this.
Mom and baby are doing fine.
