The victim of a shooting that happened during a robbery last November defied the odds by making a full recovery and is now looking forward to his future.
Regi Woodard was shot in the stomach while bartending at BAR on Main Street. He says it was a normal Tuesday evening when a man wearing a hood and mask came in with a gun and started demanding money. Woodard says he told the suspect to calm down and that the staff would cooperate.
"'Whatever you want from us, we'll give you,' and he seemed to get really agitated and then a few seconds later it was, you know, I heard the gunshot," says Woodard.
Woodard says doctors didn't think he would make it through the night after he was shot. Since the shooting, Woodard has underwent five surgeries and lost his kidney.
"They said it was a miracle they were even able to get it to stop bleeding," says Woodard.
Not only did Woodard defy the odds by surviving, but doctors say he also recovered faster than predicted. He says he is looking forward to celebrating his 49th birthday and is so thankful for all the support he received.
Police arrested two men in connection with the robbery and shooting. Jachim Brown is charged with shooting Woodard, and Eric Chambers is accused of being the getaway driver.
