Students endured the heat Wednesday, as the Norwalk High School marching band kicked off its summer camp and Fairfield University athletes attended practices.
Though the temperatures and humidity were stifling, the students say they anticipated it would be hot and brought along plenty of water. According to athletic trainer Allison Iancale, of Fairfield University, to avoid heat-related illnesses, residents should drink plenty of water before even going outside and for several hours after finishing activities.
Iancale says there are several signs of heat exhaustion to look for, including sluggish movements, profuse sweating, disorientation and dehydration.
