Three third graders at Barlow Mountain Elementary School in Ridgefield were sent home for evaluation after a large tree branch fell on the playground they were using, officials say.

The students were sent home Wednesday to be evaluated for injuries following the incident.

In a letter home to parents, the principal wrote that the branch fell onto one of the play structures.

The playground was closed for the rest of the day, and the town's tree warden is inspecting the area before it reopens.
