Thousands of southwestern Connecticut families struggling to put food on the table are about to receive some help. Starting next week, the Connecticut Food Bank will begin distributing more than $500,000 worth of emergency food. The money to purchase the food comes from federal stimulus funds. The food bank received its first shipment of the food, which contained thousands of eggs and more than 5,500 cans of pork. Future shipments will include sliced turkey and ham.Nancy Carrington, of the Connecticut Food Bank, says one in seven children in the region don't receive enough protein in their daily diet.
