A Torrington man was arrested for assaulting two women on Sunday inside a home on Victoria Street, police say.

One victim went to the Torrington Police Department to report her injuries. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an 80-year-old woman who had been severely beaten with multiple objects.

Officers arrested Martin West, 53, at the scene. Police say he was uncooperative and set a small fire inside the home.

He is being held on a $1 million bond and facing several charges including assault and arson.

Both women required medical attention. The first victim has been discharged and the 80-year-old woman is in stable condition.
