Towns throughout Connecticut honored fallen soldiers with Memorial Day parades.
Hundreds of residents took to Trumbull for a parade that featured local fire departments, school bands and war veterans.
People like J.R. Lubin say they were happy to return to holiday festivities this year.
“It’s exciting and it’s a moment to reflect on the sacrifices the men and women have made to provide freedom for our country,” Lubin says.
Gov. Ned Lamont and Sen. Richard Blumenthal were also in attendance. “The spirit today is so overwhelming,” Blumenthal says. “People are so happy to be out and be honoring heroes who made it possible to have this great freedom and all the liberties that we have.”
The flags will fly on Main Street throughout the summer. Residents can sponsor a flag in honor of a soldier.
