Uncollected trash has been piling up in Bridgeport following last week's major snowstorm.
Christmas boxes, wrapping paper, wine bottles and other waste that families generated over the holidays are on the street and piling higher by the day.
Bridgeport officials say the city is back on its regular pickup schedule after losing three days to the storm and two days for the Christmas and New Year's holidays. They add that there will be a double route this week for recycling, which is normally picked up only once every other week. Officials say that will allow them to be caught up on all trash and recycling by the end of this week.
But some residents say the extra effort is coming too late.
"This stuff is going to freeze. And when it freezes, what are you going to do then?" asks Martin Rodriguez, of Bridgeport. "The bags are going to break. And is the department just going to leave the trash on the street?"
City officials say they're working diligently to take care of the issue. They tell anyone with a trash problem to file it on the city's mobile 311 app.
