The U.S. secretary of education is in southwestern Connecticut Tuesday to talk about the No Child Left Behind Act.

Congressman Chris Shays (R-CT) invited Margaret Spellings to tour Columbus School in Bridgeport as leaders get ready to re-authorize the act. They met with teachers and students to find out how their schools have fared since the law took effect five years ago.

Connecticut has sued the federal government over the mandate. The state says federal funds don't keep up with the cost of expenses it incurs with the testing. Spellings and Shays agree the No Child Left Behind Act needs more funding, and claim it will get it from Congress.

"What's different in the last five years is we're holding ourselves accountable," Secretary Spellings said. "We're not just putting out the money and hoping for the best. We're really shining the spotlight and it's making a big difference."
